Frequently Asked Questions...
Is the process safe for consumers?
Yes. All of the components in the tanning solution have been used in food and/or cosmetics for several decades. If an individual has ever had any adverse effects utilizing self-tanning products or moisturizers, they might experience similar effects with the tanning solution.
How does it work?
Sunless tanning products work by creating a response with the top layers of skin. Dihydroxyacetone or DHA sugars react naturally with the protein in skin to create that tan, golden color tanners are seeking. Magic Tan uses a DHA self-tanner and a bronzer blend to give you the streak-free golden tan you want - no matter what your skin type. We have also added aloe and moisturizers to keep your skin healthy and golden brown, so you can look good and feel great! Not only does Magic Tan have a superior proprietary solution which results in the most amazing tan, but this rare combination of precisely timed and measured misting of this solution is truly one of Magic Tan's advantages. The result is an effortless and stunning looking tan. There's no longer any reason for any person to go through life looking pale and unhealthy...or accept orange , blotchy, or streaky results!
What about allergic reactions to chemicals used in the tanning solution?
All of the components in the Magic Tan tanning solution have been used in cosmetics and food products for decades. These components are approved for use on the skin and are considered safe. If you have any serious allergies it is always wise to ask the salon staff who have a complete list of ingredients that they can show you.
How is the tanning solution applied to the skin?
The Magic Tan booth is a full-body, DHA tanning process that utilizes a new misting technology. This is a revolutionary process that allows the booth to apply a uniform amount of tanning solution to all parts of the body. When the special Magic Tan solution passes through the booth’s nozzles, the particles of solution are polarized making it cover all surfaces of the skin evenly. When the tanning process is finished, the user simply steps out of the booth, towels-off any excess mist, gets dressed, and exits. The result is a uniform, natural-looking tan in less than five minutes.
How long does the tan last?
The tan should last anywhere from 5 to 7 days. Everyone's skin exfoliates at different rates. Remember, your skin is literally dying to fall off.
Does it turn the skin orange?
No! In the past, self-tanners gave many individuals an unnatural glow and caused streaking. Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper or ineffective application techniques or improper solution mixtures. Applying creams and lotions by hand usually results in excessive amounts being absorbed in the skin. Excessive amounts applied in a single application can give an orange glow to the skin. Unnatural dark spots may also appear in dry or thick skinned areas such as elbows, knees, and knuckles because these areas have a tendency to absorb more of the cream. Hand held spray-on applicators tend to run and cause streaking. This new technology used to apply the Magic Tan tanning solution assures that all areas of the body get a uniform coating of the solution in the exact quantity required to produce a golden brown tan.
What about people with fair skin that have never been able to tan?
The Magic Tan tanning booth was designed specifically for individuals who can't or don't want to tan conventionally.
Do people with hair on their legs/arms, develop a uneven tan where hair is present?
No. People with hair on their bodies will see tiny droplets of mist on their hairs at the end of the tanning process. These droplets are removed during toweling off and the same even, golden brown tan is achieved.
What should people wear in the tanning booth?
Many people do not wear anything. The room is completely private, so tanning in the nude is perfectly acceptable. However, if a bathing suit, underwear, or anything else is worn, it may be stained. The bronzer we use for initial color is water-soluble and should wash out of any clothing, but the DHA applications may cause permanent stains on any clothing worn inside the booth.
What happens if the mist gets into the user’s eyes?
We suggest keeping the eyes closed during the misting process. Due to the moisturizing components in the mist, eyes may feel itchy or scratchy.
How many times does a person need to use Magic Tan to achieve the color they want?
A person will be tan after one session, but it may take an additional session or two to achieve their desired color. Once they reach the desired color they should be able to maintain it by tanning every five to seven days.
Does Magic Tan give an even tan?
The Magic Tan tanning booth is designed to provide the most even tan possible. This is due to the precisely positioned and time application of the 36 spray nozzles. Some people have dry patches of skin which may appear darker and exfoliate at a different rate than the rest of their body. Magic Tan operators will be able to offer their clients proprietary products to help these customers achieve the best results possible.
Will it make the user feel sticky like lotions do?
No. Once the user leaves the Magic Tan tanning booth and dries off, their skin will feel soft and pliable because of the moisturizing components. It will not feel sticky.
Does the user need to cover their hair during use?
No. Many consumers wear disposable shower caps, which are provided by the salon, to keep the solution from getting in their hair. Other consumers tan without covering their hair. The solution will not penetrate the hair follicles.
Is the user wet when getting out of the booth?
The mist applied in the Magic Tan tanning booth is very fine, much like the mist floating in the air on a foggy day. By the time the user steps out of the booth most of the mist will have dried, but there may still be a few moist areas. They may see small droplets clinging to the body hair on arms or legs. This remaining moisture can be removed quite easily by toweling dry. There’s no worry about wiping off the solution with the towel. Toweling does not streak the tan, and any solution that comes off on the towel was excess and will not effect the tan.
Does the mist leave an unpleasant odor on the user?
Some of our guests have commented that they noticed a slight "starchy" smell on their skin after tanning, but it is usually not noticeable to others around them.
Will the user get sick if they breathe during the session?
We recommend that users hold their breath during the actual misting process. We make this recommendation because most individuals would prefer not to breathe in the mist even though there is nothing in it that would cause any harm if you did breathe it in. If there is a history of asthma or other respiratory illnesses we do not recommend tanning in the Magic Tan tanning booth until consulting with a doctor.
How long after the tanning session can the user put their clothes back on?
Once the user has towel dried there is little chance of the bronzer or DHA getting on their clothes. We recommend that on the day of tanning the user wears darker colors which are loose fitting. If user pursues any strenuous physical activity after a Magic Tan tanning session, perspiration may cause some of the bronzer to transfer to their clothing. Since the bronzer is completely water-soluble it will wash out.
Does this system cause freckles in people who usually freckle when tanning?
No. There is nothing in the Magic Tan tanning solution that will cause more freckles to break out. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become less pronounced because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differentiation between the blemishes and the rest of the skin.
Will the user get a better tan if they tan twice in the same day?
Yes, tanning twice in the same day will create a darker tan, but we do not recommend back to back sessions. Tanning back to back does not give the DHA a chance to set between tans, and increases the chance that your tan may have an orange glow. Waiting 12 to 24 hours between tans will eliminate this potential problem.
How soon after the tanning session can the user shower?
We recommend that the user wait at least a few hours after tanning to give the DHA enough time to fully set. If they shower earlier, they may diminish the intensity of the tan. When they do shower the initial tan created by the water-soluble bronzer will wash off, but the DHA will remain and create a long term tan.
Can Magic Tan users also use the sun and UV-tanning beds?
Yes. There is nothing in the Magic Tan tanning solution that would prevent users from tanning in tanning beds or the sun. In fact, a number of customers have found that tanning with UV rays and the Magic Tan tanning solution actually gives them a better overall tan. Remember, however, that the Magic Tan tanning process does not give protection from UV rays.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Our sunless tanning is extremely popular. Walk-ins are always welcome! However to guarantee a specific time we would recommend you make an appointment.
